Yes, its a great film that takes some liberties with the truth to develop a good plot for a film. However, the main details about the win in the 1976 "Judgement in Paris" and the main characters Jim Barrett (founder of Chateau Montelena) and his son Bo are pretty much true. They along with others in the early years of Napa are responsible for putting Cali on the win map of the world.
I saw just the end and it looked like a great movie. I'm going to try and watch the whole thing soon. The vintner for Chateau Montelena that produced the winning Chardonnay was Mike Grgich, who opened up his own winery a couple years later called Grgich Hills (in partnership with Hills brothers - coffee makers). We checked it out in Napa a few days ago and had one of our best tours. They are certified organic and biodynamic.
