While gamay is used almost exclusively to produce light and fruity wines, these wines typically are dry and contain little residual sugar. Gamay is most notably grown in the Beaujolais region of France and is the grape used to produce the popular Beaujolais nouveau. Beaujolais nouveau is a wine which is fermented only weeks and released every year on the third Thursday of November, known as Beaujolais Day.
Gamay wines typically have flavors and aromas of flowers, stawberry, cherry, and bananas, and are high in acid and very low in tannins.
