That is a very complicated question. Some wines are not meant to be age. In their case aging removes the qualities that make them tasty. But, in a wine that is a good candidate for aging, if handled properly, over time the tannins, alcohol, and acidity will begin to change. The flavors of the wine will become more balanced. When everything goes as planned, none of those 3 elements will dominate. Some wines can be aged for very long times, but that produces different results entirely. Or so they tell me. No bottle has ever died of old age around me.
