The Wine
Deep crimson with violet hues, the Yalumba Y Series Shiraz Viognier 2008 displays aromas of crushed mulberries, wild berry and rhubarb which are complemented by hints of sweet cinnamon and violets. This wine is medium bodied with layers of wild berries and violets, while the tannins are soft which give the wine a juicy sweetness and persistence.
The Growing Region - South Australia
The majority of wines from Australia come from this state. Home to the red wine regions of McLaren Vale, Coonawarra and Barossa Valley, South Australia produces some of the finest red wines of the country, and some say in the world. White wines gain their reputation from the distinctive Rieslings of Clare Valley.

About Australia:
Like the United States, which is about the same size, Australia's winemaking regions are huddled into one or two pockets of the country. The state of South Australia, which produces about 60% of the country's wines, also has the most wineries and sub-regions, including McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, Coonawarra and Barossa Valley. New South Wales is home to the Hunter Valley, while the smaller, southern state of Victoria has the Yarra Valley in its borders. Head way west to the very large state of Western Australia and you'll find the tiny region of Margaret River at the southern tip.
