The Wine
Known for luscious Cabernet Sauvignons, this wine is a classic example of Geyser Peak Winery's intense, lively style. Forward fruit characters of black cherry and blackberry dominate the aromas, with underlying grace notes of dark chocolate and spice. In typical Geyser Peak style, the bright fruit is nicely supported by a restrained oak character. The palate is rich, round and lush, seamlessly pairing the cherry and berry fruit with a hint of spice and vanilla. The fine-grained tannins meld into a persistent, lingering finish.
The Growing Region - Sonoma County
Twice as large as Napa in size, Sonoma County only makes about a half the amount of wine as her northeasterly neighbor. But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the Joneses, or Napa-ites if you will. Grape varieties are more varied here, from Pinot Noir and Zinfandel to Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Show Full Details

Good solid Cab for $15.00. Will maybe try the 2006, but too many choices getting in the way.

This is a very solid Cab, used it as a party wine in 2009 because the price was so good but it does stand on its own with dinner too.

This is a light and mildly pleasant wine...an 81 out of 100...the issue is quality for price...you can find better at a lower price point.

I serve this wine when we have guests over. It is very reliable and a good value when on sale (under $15). Fresh and fruit forward with a decent finish it is easy to match with lots of entrees. Seems we always dip into a second bottle, too.

but presentable - The Wine News review of "aromas of blueberry, plum and mint with hints of charred oak and graphite" is poetic license to the extreme. Bottom line -- this is a pleasant, smooth and moderately fruity cabernet - but ultimately I found it somewhat wattery, non-descript and unmemorable. The tannins are light, and it drinks fine right now (Jan 2010). Given the price, its a good cab to break out toword the end of a larger dinner party; but I would not put this out early (ie, while palates are still discerning). I bought two bottles - won't be buying more.
